Domain parking is the practice of registering a domain name (that is, the name you type into the browser to get to a wesbite) just to own that domain name, without actually creating the site.

For example, if at some point I thought someone may some day make a company that sells pizzas made of shoes i ,could go to a registrar like goDaddy, namecheap, or a place like that and buy the domain www.PizzaMadeOfShoes.com or www.TastyShoePizza.com or anything like that. I would need to pay a fee every year I wanted to keep that. But, if some day someone really wants that same domain name, they need to buy it from me, and I can charge them more than I paid for it.

Yes. People could earn money just by parking their domain. You must choose the right company to park your domain though, because you could earn more if you parked the domain on the right place.

There also a good ebook that teach you step-by-step of domain parking business. You can look at my resource link

Domain parking is an advertising practice used primarily by domain name registrars and internet advertising publishers to monetize type-in traffic visiting an under-developed domain name. The domain name will usually resolve to a page containing relevant advertising listings and links. These links will be targeted to the predicted interests of the visitor and may change dynamically based on the results that visitors click on. Usually the domain owner is paid based on how many links have been visited (e.g. pay per click) and on how beneficial those visits have been. The keywords for any given domain name provide clues as to the intent of the visitor before arriving.

domain forwarding, is a technique on the World Wide Web for making a web page available under many URLs.
